Downtown Chapel Hill Gets a New Logo Design

Downtown Chapel Hill has a new logo that depicts the area as the "sophisticated travel destination" that designers and area officials say it is. Approved by the Downtown Partnership, the logo design looks like a rectangular passport stamp and has images of awnings, UNC's Old Well and a streetlamp on it.
The brand image will be used for publications, signs and Downtown Partnership materials, partnership Executive Director Liz Parham said. "It will be used to market and promote the downtown district as Orange County's largest destination for living, working, shopping, dining and entertainment, learning and so much more. We hope that it can become a really recognizable image for downtown," she said.
On the logo design, the awnings represent downtown's dining and shopping choices, the Old Well symbolizes the university and the lamp mimics those found on Franklin Street and on the UNC campus, said Lane Wurster of the Splinter Group, which designed the picture.
The logo, which Wurster said is "retro style" with an "antique classic feel," is Carolina Blue, bronze, and light gold. The words Downtown Chapel Hill are written across it diagonally.
