University to unveil new logo designs

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Mascot Committee will unveil its new "Warhawks" logo designs on June 26. The committee approved the final "Warhawks" logo designs earlier Monday.

On June 26 the committee will publicly show off the new designs and introduce some of the first merchandise, pending final tweaking and merchandise planning, said Kevin Stuart, ULM marketing director. The final maroon and gold red-tailed hawk-based logo design and the secondary logos and children's design all were met with enthusiastic reactions and acceptance, committee members said after the meeting, which was closed to the media and public.

The university logo design will translate well to all sports, Trappey said, and the military patch shape with the hawk inside for the secondary designs does a great job of honoring the military legacy of the Warhawk P-40 fighter plane and Gen. Claire Chennault, who helped make the fighter plane famous during World War II.

A secondary logo design that features the hawk clutching a lightning bolt in its talons also is a great tribute to the military, said committee member Rod Washington, especially since fighter pilots often had military patches featuring the powerful act of nature.
